The Battle of Antietam was a battle that took place on September 16-18, 1862. The Battle took place neat Sharpsburg Maryland and Antietam Creek. The major Generals in the battle were, Confederate General Robert E. Lee and Union George B. McClellen. The North went in with about 75,500 men and while the south had a little bit lower with only 55,000 men.

There's many interesting facts about the battle of Antietam... A interesting but sad note is that this was the most bloodiest battle in the civil war, and in all of U.S. history. This battle was also just as important as the battle of Gettysburg that determined the outcome of the war. This battle gave President Lincoln the little bit of courage to sign the Emancipation Proclamation.
The side that won the battle was really neither, but the Union did have better strategies. Overall there was about 26,000 casualties. The North lost about 12,400 and the South lost about 10,320.
